Crossfade Disabled When Using Airplay?

I noticed this evening that my songs weren't cross fading. I am streaming my music through airplay to my Denon and to a Homepod. When I play the music through the computer speakers or through the audio plug, crossfade works. I tried just to the Denon - no crossfade. Just to the Homepod - no crossfade.

Crossfade does work with my Airpods Pro.

So, crossfade absolutely does not work via Airplay.

Did this recently break? Or has it always been this way and I just haven't noticed?

16.4 update and Classical app breaks airplay to HomePods Since updating to 16.4 and adding the Apple Classical app, airplay from the phone no longer functions correctly when using the Classical app. Music only is produced from one of a stereo pair HomePod (1st gen) set up via airplay. On the other hand, streaming via airplay of classical music from the Music app on the phone OR desktop works correctly as it always did with both speakers producing music. Something seems broken with the Classical app or the 16.4 updates to HomePods and iPhones.

Using Airplay on HomePod Mini is buggy When I Airplay Spotify to my HomePod Mini in the low ends of some songs it crackles a little bit but when I use Apple music it doesn't do this. I am using the Apple Music free trial because of this but would like to use Spotify.
