Is it normal to take a long time to transfer data from old iPhone to a new one?

I just got a new iphone and I am still waiting for data to be transferred from the old iPhone. Also, there is no progress shown on the transfer bar on the screen. is it normal?

How much time it will take to transfer will depend on both the amount of data to be transferred and the available connection speeds. Regardless, it could take several to a number of minutes for it to complete. Things like third-party apps don't transfer and will need to be re-downloaded.

However, if the process is taking longer than 30-45 mins, double-check to be sure that you unpaired your Apple Watch (assuming you have one) from the old phone, before attempting to stop and start the transfer process again.
