I just got the latest IPad Pro exclusively for the camera as all other models have older versions of camera. I went to use it and found that the Portrait mode only works in Selfy? Why won’t it allow me to flip the camera to take portrait mode from the back camera. The phones all work this way. It’s literally the reason I got this one; so that I could take better images using the portrait mode. Not of myself.

You are not addressing Apple here.
You have signed up into an Apple supplied Apple product customer/user to user technical support community.
We are all, largely, just Apple product customers/users, just like you.
No one here will know why Apple does what it does and why some products get a certain feature set and others don't.
Only Apple know why and they never divulge their reasons.
Apple does post the specs for every product, in their Website, and there is NO mention of Portrait Mode in the specs for the rear, back camera.
So, maybe a little more research on your part might have revealed this omission.
If you are not happy with this iPad Pro purchase, you have 14 days to return this device for any reason.
