Small crack on Apple watch

I just noticed a small crack on my watch face. If I buy a screen protector or case will I still be able to use it for swimming or is there risk for water damage?

I would say that it would be at risk for water damage. The Watch is not waterproof it is only water-resistant. The crack likely ended that water resistance big time. Unless someone out there makes a waterproof case for the watch.
