How do I separate myself out of a family/joint Apple account?

My husband and I are separating. We have shared an Apple account since...2007? Family photos, music, apps-the whole lot-are entwined in a web of passwords, administrators (him), ID's and Usernames. He has removed his emails so that part is solely in my name. What is the best way to simplify the process of essentially replicating the account so each party can then edit to what he/she wants? I'm particularly worried about losing photos of the children and I want to ensure my total privacy on all Apple-related products (phone and computer) going forwards. Ideally, I would like to go to an Apple store, but lockdown makes that impossible. THANK YOU!

One of you'll keep the current one as your own. Other person signs out of the Apple ID on all their devices and chooses the option to keep content on the device, if asked, then they will create their own Apple ID and sign into it and turn on their preferred iCloud options again. (Settings... your name... Sign Out... Sign out of Store and iCloud)

Keep in mind, apps, music, movies, etc purchased and/downloaded cannot be transferred and will be under the original Apple ID only. Whoever has the new Apple ID will also want to delete all apps before signing out so you can redownload them under the new Apple ID otherwise you’ll run into future issues updating the apps.

Now you both can delete content like contacts, photos, notes, etc without affecting the other person because you are no longer signed into the same ID.
