I have a new (used) iPod. It will not recognize my Apple id. Every time I sign in I get a phone call with an id code.

I have a new (used) 4th generation iPod. In trying to access some of my favorite sites for download It says podcasts have moved and I must get the Podcasts app. When I try to do that it does not recognize my Apple sign-in and then I get a phone call with an ID code which I have no idea what to do with. I had no problem with getting the aps on my older iPod.
