iTunes and Photos not recognizing my phone

When I plug my iphone into my Mac desktop, photos will alternate between showing "device" and it going away over and over every 1-2 seconds. In iTunes, it a box pops up and continually asks if this computer can access my device, I check "continue" but it asks again.
