ios updates/youtube updates

I have a very old iPad, which will not update to the latest ios version. This evening, YouTube started telling me that I have to update that app, but it needs a newer ios than I can have. Is there any way round this?

Windows, Windows 10

YouTube requires iOS11 or later. If your iPad cannot be updated to iOS11, this indicates that you have a very old 32-bit model of iPad - all of which are obsolete and are incompatible with more recent 64-bit versions of iOS/iPadOS and Apps. These models are:

  • iPad1 - iOS 5.1.1
  • iPad2, iPad3 and iPad mini1 - iOS 9.3.5 (WiFi Only models), iOS 9.3.6 (WiFi & Cellular)
  • iPad4 - iOS 10.3.3 (WiFi Only), iOS 10.3.4 (WiFi & Cellular)

Not sure which iPad you have? Identify your iPad model.

As you have an older model iPad, you need to understand that compatible Apps for older iPad models are becoming difficult to find; third-party developers are increasingly dropping support for older versions of iOS preceding iOS11/12/13.  Additionally, all 32-bit Apps have been removed from the Apple App Store. As older versions of Apps are removed from the Store, you’ll not be able to (re)download or install them - which may severely limit the usefulness and utility of an older iPad.

If Apps that you need to use now have higher minimum iOS-version requirements, your only option is to replace your iPad with newer model. Of current models, even the entry-level iPad8 supports current iPadOS 14 - and has hardware specifications and capabilities that vastly outperform your old iPad.

I hope this information is helpful - if only in clearly stating the limitations of your iPad and your available options.

You can always use a Web browser to access the YouTube Website and log into your account there.

The app is just a portal to the actual Website anyways.

AND, that over 4-year old default iOS Safari Web browser is too old, not secure and not safe to use to access the Internet, any longer.

There are virtually NO MORE third party Web browsers left for 8-10 year old iPads!

Available and more popular third party Web browser choices are pretty much GONE, now.

If you must use these old iPad models, here is what is left for still updated Web browsers.

Pickins’ are slim, now!

ALook Web browser ( A fairly new Web browser primarily designed for old iOS device versions, but is still available to newer iOS/iPadOS devices, as well )

Dolphin Web browser

Maxthon Web browser

TOR private browser

TOR + VPN private browser

Turbo VPN private browser

This is pretty much it for iOS 9/10 compatible, third party Web browsers today.

You can easily access the YouTube Website from a Web browser and simply log into your YouTube account that way.

Good Luck to You!
