Slow reaction time to mouse click

My iMac takes 20-30 seconds to respond, then a spinning color ball appears for another 20-30- seconds.

I used the disk utility but it didn't help.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in Use Safe Mode to isolate issues with your Mac and then restart normally and test it.
