Is my Apple Watch 5 taking too long to charge?

According to Apple, an Apple Watch 5 takes 1.5 hours to charge from 0% to 80% and 2.5 hours to charge from 0% to 100%.

My Apple Watch seems to be taking much longer to charge, which is an issue because it's eating much more battery than it was just a year ago. I've taken to tossing my battery on the charger for awhile before I go to bed so I can start my sleep fully charged.

During a typical night;s sleep, about 10% of the battery is consumed. When I put it on the charger, it takes about 30 minutes to get back up to 100%. This seems....long.

Because I own an EV, I know that there is a "taper" when a battery is charged as it gets toward full capacity. Is that what's going on here? Or is my Watch charging slower than it should be, and if so, how do I figure out why that is?

And on a related note, is there any way, like I can on my iPhone, that I can find out what apps on my Watch are consuming battery power?

Hey twriter,

It sounds like you're having issues charging your Apple Watch. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

First, check the info and troubleshooting here: If your Apple Watch won't charge or it won't turn on - Apple Support

While the watch is charging, there is great info in there that may apply.

If you need more help, check for and install any updates that may be available for your Apple Watch and iPhone:

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

We'd also recommend restarting your Apple Watch and paired iPhone to see if that helps.

Thanks!

I install updates every time they are available--and it scares the crap out of me every time because it seems each update makes battery life worse.

Also, generic answers that don't address the specific question and are just pasted-in boilerplate responses are not helpful and not indicative that you're concerned with user issues.

On your related note you could try this;

Remove 3rd party apps from the dock and/or from your watch and then check your battery performance after adding them back, one by one.There isn't an app usage chart for the watch.
