OK, that's what I figured but I see that with a lot of especially ed sites, the teaser idea is often used. Surprised Apple doesn't do it because it's a good way to get people enthused and want to join. Not hard to do either, as far as I can see, with a member only invite or some sort of 1x only PW.

I'm not aware of a way to play Apple Arcade games without being a subscriber, either directly or via Family Sharing plan.
Arcade offers a free trial period; typically a month, when last I checked.
Arcade is also part of the higher-end Apple One service packages.
