“This payment method can’t be used with the iTunes store.” Wtf?!

Getting this error message when trying to update/verify my iPhone payment method, a Visa card I’ve had on file for years and doesn’t expire for a few more: “This payment method can’t be used with the iTunes store.” Wallet still accepts my card, but iTunes will not and as a result is cancelling my subscription renewals (e.g. streaming apps). Any idea wtf is up?

We recommend removing and adding the payment method back. The steps here can help: If your payment method is declined in the App Store or iTunes Store

If you recently requested a refund and no longer can use the card, or the issue continues Contact Apple Support
