iPad (6th gen) connectivity to sidecar

I found that article right before I decided to ask the community the question. Nowhere in there does it say how to set up your iPad. It assumes that it'll just show up in the Display Menu control in Control Center. Mine does not.

I'm going to try logging into my iCloud account on the iPad to see if that's the reason it isn't showing up in the Display menu. I'll report back once i've figured it out.

Looks like i'm logged into two different icloud accounts... although i can see all devices on my iPad through Apple ID which is confusing. If I can see the laptop, why can't the laptop see the iPad?
