Muffled iMessage

My iMessages sound muffled. They are ok when I use my ear buds or voice memo. I’ve cleaned the speakers as well as the one on the face. Any ideas??

iMessage voice notes muffled i can’t send any voice notes on iMessage because they are so muffled that recipients can’t hear this. I have tested all my microphones, I have disabled raise to listen, I have cleaned out my microphones I don’t know what else to try? I have an iPhone X. Also this is ONLY on iMessage! When attempting to send an audio message on my iPhone 12 Pro Max the microphone quality is terrible Someone brought this up a few years ago and I’m hoping I can find a resolution. My audio recordings on iMessage aren’t working well. At first you couldn’t hear my recordings at all & it would go in & out but after speaking with Apple they had me try a few things & now it somewhat works after 3 seconds of working. It starts off low and then returns back to normal which is very strange. I was told it’s either a hardware or software issue (my battery being depleted) but I highly doubt it’s a hardware issue as I know people with very old phones and they don’t have this issue. My phone is on the latest update, it’s an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I’ve done everything and it’s super frustrating so if someone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated [Re-Titled by Moderator]

My audio messages are fluctuating in volume when I record it While recording audio messages on iMessage the message comes out so low and Midway picks up. It only happens on iMessage I tested it out on Instagram Snapchat and WhatsApp send audio messages are perfect why is this happening on iMessage. I am using speech to text while typing this so it is not my microphone it is iMessage please do not give me articles on cleaning microphones because that is not the issue. Thank you and hope I can hear from somebody soon.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that your audio messages in the Messages app sound muffled. It sounds like this happens with audio messages that you are sending that you've recorded with your iPhone microphone. Is that right?

Great troubleshooting so far. If someone sends you a message and you play it back, does it sound OK? If you record a video using your camera and play it back, are there any issues with audio?

Are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data when this happens? Try testing on multiple networks and with multiple contacts to see if this is isolated to a network or contact.

Next, restart your iPhone, then test again.
