iMessage Background Refresh

I don’t remember my phone updating recently, but over the past few days I’ve noticed when switching from iMessage to another app and then quickly switching back to iMessage, it goes back to the main screen where all the conversations are. It used to stay on the same conversation until I manually clicked out of it. I often have to reference back and from my current conversation to the Safari browser and very much dislike the inconvenience. Was this apart of an update or can this issue be resolved? I’ve already checked my “Background App Refresh” setting and surprisingly iMessage isn’t in there.

Hi beckyyo,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. From our understanding, when you switch from message to another app and then switch back to the messages app, it goes back to the inbox and not whatever message you had opened before switching, is that correct? Is the app being forced to close by swiping up on it or do you just switch to the other app? You mentioned not being sure if the device is up to date, is that correct? The latest iOS for the iPhone 11 Pro Max is iOS 14.4. Has your iPhone been restarted since noticing this issue? Restarting can resolve many issues.

Restart your iPhone

Hope that helps!
