Repeated varied attempts to put iphone 8 into recovery mode has failed

My iphone 8 passcode is lost. I have followed instructions in Apple Support to go into recovery mode. I have had no success.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you can’t update or restore your device with recovery mode, you can't

use recovery mode because of broken buttons, or your device is stuck in

Activation Lock, contact Apple Support.
