Trick Apple Mail into showing the full email address and urls of embedded links

I almost fell for a phishing attempt because Apple Mail does not give me an option to display email addresses of senders, nor the option to display embedded links in full text. My university email only works with Apple Mail. The web client is not an option (and it does not display these things either).

Now I'd need Apple Mail to give me the tools I need to efficiently check for phishing:

  1. I need to see the full email address, and
  2. I need to see the full URLs.

I have seen that I could make a rule that runs an Apple Script. How do I make such a script? Or are there other options?

thanks!

Macbook air, pro, iMac 2013-2015 Mojave 10.14.6 all updates made.

ps I have filed feedback to Apple but I don't give it much hope. Plus I'll be running Mojave for some more time on all machines.

Thank you Gary and Allan -I know I can hover, I should have said that, but I”d need to see the address and url by default, with an option in preferences. The font size of the hover-box is very small bottom left, and I need to hover for some time to spot the relevant part. This it is tricky to do without clicking inadvertently. The fake was quite good, and a slightly longer look would have been enough.

plus if I see it’s spam by the address, I could trash it without opening. And I could see which account got that email.

This option doesn’t exist, does it?
