Was my personal information hacked

Pop up on my iPad which was a repeating oral message . It said “ You have been hacked. Don’t turn off iPad”. In the corner of the picture that covered the I pad screen was a message to call Apple support.

I called the number. I had never heard of a scam like this. First mistake was to call the number. He said that the hacker had hacked my personal information and used it to gamble. And ”we” needed to call my credit company and report it. Well we called and when I was asked for the my card number I had a feeling that something was wrong. I hung up. Was it a scam? Or has my personal information been hacked?
