iPhone12 Mini - Music on External Devices

My iPhone 12 used to be able to connect simultaneously to the 3 or 4 Bose/AppleTV/Bluetooth Ampster devices located around the house. In the past weeks that feature has been lost. I can connect to them all individually but choosing a second replaces the first. They can all be accessed simultaneously from my MacBook. The loss of function on the iPhone could be linked to a recent upgrade to IOS14.4 but cannot be certain. I have checked they are all on the same network as the iPhone. The Apple TV is on a different band within the network but was not thinking that was an issue. How to restore simultaneous connection please.

Hi Cosmologist70,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have a question about connecting multiple Bluetooth devices to your iPhone. We're happy to assist.

You can create a stereo pair with two HomePod speakers or two HomePod mini speakers. Those steps can be found here: Set up HomePod stereo pairing

If you're devices are compatible with AirPlay, once paired you can view details here on how to switch between devices with the steps here: Use AirPlay to stream audio

Should you need more information on how devices are paired, the section "Pair your device with a Bluetooth accessory" from the article here has the details:

Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Best!

Hi John,

Thanks for the information. You are correct, the expected behavior is output to one device from a connection with AirPlay or Bluetooth. The exception would be HomePod stereo pairing as seen in the guide previously shared.

However, you can pair multiple Bluetooth accessories. The article here has the steps to assist: Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Additionally, the guide here can help you quickly change the playback destination on your iPhone: Play audio from iPhone on HomePod and other wireless speakers

Cheers!

Hi Eric,

Thank you.

Connecting to multiple Airplay speakers from my MacBook is not a problem (although since 14.4 upgraded the selection tick boxes have all but disappeared - they are so feint as to be almost invisible which caused a lot of confusion until spotted in daylight).

Connecting to a single Bluetooth device from the MacBook is also OK.

Where I am seeing a change is I can no longer connect via both methods (AP and BT) simultaneously. Its either AP devices or a single BT device.

Is this what I should expect now?

From an iOS device (iPhone) I can only connect to a single speaker device, AP or BT - but only one.

Again is this what I should expect now.

I am sure it was different before 14.4.

Regards,

John
