iphone se imessage list

All of a sudden a solid grey circle has appeared in the middle of screen above text messages. How do I get rid of that?

It appears that a text thread has been "Pinned" and that is the feature of iOS 14. You can unpin that text thread by using the TOUCH & HOLD method. TOUCH & HOLD the grey icon until a sub-menu is revealed. In it, you will UNPIN. Tap on UNPIN and that text thread will fall into its space in the list below.
