How do you define reset my phone? What a exactly did you do? Are you including text messages in your backup or are you syncing messages with iCloud?

If you are including texts in your backups, you have to restore the backup to recover the text messages. When you restore a backup, you overwrite the current contents of the device with the contents in the backup.

If you were syncing messages with iCloud, did you turn on the switch in Settings>Your name>iCloud>Apps using iCloud>Messages>On?
