Migration assistant is asking for a password. It isn’t accepting my apple password.

When you say "apple" password - did you mean your Apple ID password? If so, that is not what it wants - it wants your admin/login password you use when you boot up your Mac.

Perhaps it is asking for an encryption password for something needed to make the transfer. The source drive, perhaps?
