Open PNG attachments in message

Once picture messages turn to png attachments they will no longer download for my viewing.

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that the images you’re receiving in Messages on your iPhone 11 Pro Max are pending with the “Downloading…” status, and we want to make sure we do everything we can to help. 


You mentioned that this happens after they turn to PNG attachments, can you elaborate on this for us? What do you mean by turning into a PNG attachment?


We’re also curious about whether you’re able to see them when you try to view the attachment by tapping the info button at the top of this message. The “Find attachments from a conversation” section here will help:



If you aren’t able to see them here, are you able to see them if you switch networks? (e.g. from cellular data to Wi-Fi)


It’s also a good idea to make sure you have enough storage for the images on your device (or in iCloud if you’re storing your Messages in iCloud).
