I have my two iMacs connected through a thunderbolt cable, but migration assistant is still only going through the WiFi. How can I override this so that the cable connection is used instead?

Yes, I have tried that, but it still goes automatically to WiFi. I even tried skipping the WiFi setup on the new iMac, but it still shows this when I start transferring data:

If there is a cancel button, use it, and make sure proper cable is being used and it is connected securely, then try again.
