Restore Process creates a duplicate backup?

I am trying to restore my phone from my PC (not Mac) using a backup on itunes.

The size of the existing backup is 90 Gb and my laptop has 69 Gb available.

Every time I am trying to restore, a new back up file seems to be created under C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

This file grows as the restores goes on until all 69 Gb available are full and then the restore fails.

Does anyone know why restore is creating this giant duplicate file? Or how I can fix this and restore my phone?

Hi badbackup,

We understand you'd like to restore a device without creating a backup during the process. We're happy to help.

Once you connect the device and go to the device page in iTunes, you'll want to uncheck the "Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this computer" option. This will stop iTunes from automatically creating backups every time your iPhone is connected.

Here's an example image. You'll see the option we're referring to under the Backups section:

Once you have that option unchecked, you can proceed with restoring the device. Once the restore is completed, if you'd like iTunes to automatically backup every time the device is connected again, you can just re-check the box next to "Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this computer".

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately it did not work.

My device is configured as below. It is not set to generate backup on connection. The new file appears to be generated during the restore and grows in size as the restore goes on. The file does not appear if I simply connect my phone so I think it is part of the restore process causing this to happen.
