My keyboard won't work on my desktop Mac so I can't log on to my computer

I was on vacation and when I returned my keyboard won't stay on only flashes at me. Since I need it to log on my computer, I can't use the computer at all. Yes I have changed the batteries twice!

The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!

1.     Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.

2.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

3.     Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

4.     Turn off Bluetooth

5.     Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

6.     Restart the computer normally.

7.     Open System Preferences – Bluetooth

8.     Turn on Bluetooth

9.     Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.

10.  Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.

Thank you for your response, just so you know, I live about 50 miles away from a Walmart and it was minus 29 degrees F this morning when I was asking the questions. I was just asking about alternate solutions instead of a two hour trip in minus 50 wind chill. Also I recently retired from my job where I reported to the CIO of an international company.
