Thanks for providing the screenshot. Based on the message at the bottom of the screen, it appears that FileVault is enabled. This means that a recovery key is required in order to reset your password.


When you first set up FileVault, it asked whether you wanted to store your recovery key in iCloud:


  • If you chose Yes, or are not sure, follow the instructions in the message at the bottom of the screen.
  • If you chose No: Click the (?) in the password field, then choose to use your recovery key. Enter the 24-character recovery key when prompted.
