Will M1 MacBook Pro ever support multiple external displays natively?

I just received my new M1 MacBook Pro and was beyond disappointed to find out it doesn't support more than one external display. I guess I didn't do enough research...

My question is: Will Apple ever be able to update the capabilities in the M1 chip for MacBook Pro to support additional external displays? Really hoping so or I'll likely be returning my new product.

I'm by no means an expert on the topic, but as far as I've heard this is a hardware-limitation of the M1 chip itself. The GPU can only run two displays at a time (so the integrated monitor on the MacBook/MacBook Pro itself, and one external. Or two external for the M1 Mac Mini).

There will most likely be apple-silicon Macs with support for more than two displays in future, but that will most likely not happen until the M2/M1x or whatever else apple decides to call the next apple-silicon Mac-chip. It's rumoured to be a feature of an upcoming apple-silicon refresh to the 16" MacBook Pro later this year, but I don't think apple themselves have said anything about it yet.

Thanks, all. I reluctantly retired the computer to my local Apple store. It's a shame because I could tell the computer was insanely equipped to handle my workload.

The salesperson helping me tried to tell me the computer could in fact handle more than one display (I knew he was incorrect after hours of due diligence before arriving). I swear there are more and more sales people at Apple retail stores who don't know what's what anymore...

Looks like I'll be waiting for the next M chip from Apple :(

Thanks again, everyone!
