Can't connect Toshiba disk to MacBook Air

I have just bought Macbook Air. It seems that my external disk cannot be connected . I bought the adaptor and downloaded NTFS. no matter what still no icon on desktop, nothing seems to work

Remove the download of NTFS as per the Developers Instructions . It is not needed to use if Only Using the Toshiba drive with the MBA. With the drive attached - connected open Disk Utilities usually in the Oher Folder in Launchpad. Once open >> View >> View All connected devices and on left side look for the name Toshiba. Click it. Now on Right Upper look at what Disk Format it is showing. Probably exFat or NTFS. It needs to be reformatted to HFS Journaled with Scheme: GUID Partition Map.
