Also, is this occurring while you are looking at your iPhone? This may be the Attention Awareness feature: About Attention Aware features on your iPhone X or iPad Pro - Apple Support
You can put the phone face down and test, or disable this feature: "If you don’t want to use these features, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware Features."
