iPhone notifications not working on iOS 14.4

Hello,

This has been a recurring issue since I've had this phone (iPhone XS Max) two years ago, and present in every single iOS version available. Push notifications work fine for months, but then every single app stops having notifications at the same time. It's not just Messages, but also Gmail, Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, etc. I've contacted support a couple of times and so far the only two solutions that temporarily solve the issue are re-installing every affected app, or reseting the entire phone to a factory state (restoring from a back-up won't work) and then re-downloading everything. None of the other tricks out there appear to work (bluetooth, airplane mode, watch notifications, do not disturb, etc.). I've seen a few threads trying to address the issue by mentioning that it might be related to some notification settings, but I can assure that this isn't the case.

The issue happens almost randomly and it affects all of the applications at the same time. Out of the numerous times that it has happened, in one instance it started occurring when the iPhone's memory was almost full; and in the latest case the moment I activated "Do not disturb".

Applications only receive notifications badges for a very brief period of time after you exit them (not close), about 1-2 seconds. After that, they "freeze", and neither push notifications nor badges appear.

I was wondering if anyone has had this kind of issue and if there are any better workarounds rather than having to re-install every application.

Thank you.

This is much bigger than I realized. When I began using iOS 14.0 I had everything like normal. But when I began using shortcuts to change my icons is when I noticed I wasn't getting of the Home Screen notifications. I came here and tried numerous things others said worked for them. The only way I get notified is the temporary banner at the top of the screen.

Now when opening any app I get that temporary banner. And I don't like it. When I look at the Home Screen it always has zero alerts. I have to open the phone app, messages, email, etc. to check if anything has come through.

One of the online videos told how to fix the drop down notification. I tried it and it did work. For about 15 minutes.

i have a lot of icons, widgets, etc. and so I like the way it looks but I lost some connectivity in the process. I hope a real solution is found soon.

I downloaded 14.5 when it came out & was very disappointed it wasn't fixed. So, in my experience I was led to believe it's the shortcuts that caused the problem because the notifications went away with that.

Hi, my girlfriend has the same problem with iphone 8 (now latest software actualization) and it started after she has transferred settings and apps from old phone (Iphone se1) On the old iphone, everything was working well, the newer one was working well too, but now, notifications for whatsapp and messenger do not work anymore. The problem persist after two software actualizations. Hey apple, you have to fix that, it is really annoying.

I also have been having issues with notifications. Notifications do not appear on the lock screen for phone calls missed. (While notifications for Phone app are enabled for Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners.) This is not behaving at all like previous versions of iOS.

Like an answering machine that doesn't tell you when you have a message: I never see missed calls unless I accidentally flip from the top of the unlocked screen, revealing... the false Lock Screen where notifications ARE displayed. Click off to see the real lock screen: no notifications.

At times, I will look at the phone while a text message arrives, and is displayed on the Lock Screen. As I'm reading the message, it disappears completely, without touching anything, or unlocking the phone.

Pretty basic to the function of a cell phone: knowing if someone's called you. Along with every other glitchy thing going on with this 12 mini, I'm disheartened. 5 years ago I never had these types of problems happening with iPhone- 6 generations ago!! Please fix this bug.

Me too I have the same problem.

I have iPhone XS MAX.

On iOS14.4 Line and Facebook notifications stopped working and both the apps are up to date and all the correct notification settings are turned on but I do not receive notifications from these apps. Please fix this iOS 14.4 notification bug Apple.

I have an issue related to this one, sadly is the other way around. I don't receive push notifications when my screen is unlocked. Yet, when I lock the phone I do get them. It all started with this last iOS 14.4 update I made to my iPhone 8. I'm about to install the iOS 14.4.1 and I tell you all what was the result of that. If that doesn't help a thing, I will proceed to uninstall all apps and install them again from scratch. Wish me luck.

I am having the same problem. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPad Pro. I have tried this and it still hasn’t worked. Some apps only show up on my iPad and others only on my iPhone, while they are still downloaded on both devices! I have tried everything and even downloaded 14.4.2. Nothing seems to be working. I hope Apple fixes this. It’s annoying.

Happening for me as well.

At first, it happened only to Gmail notifications and after a week or two became a general thing to all apps.

The current situation is not receiving notifications at all and when opening an app all the new messages pop up.

Seems related to the iOS 14.4.2 update.

This is a very inconvenient bug, I reply late to important emails and messages.

Please fix it as fast as you can. Thanks.

I experience the exact same problem on my İPhone 8 and I tried everything, turned off Bluetooth, resetting, reinstalling apps and downloading 14.4.2. Nothing worked. My notification settings have no problem but I’m not receiving any notification from any app. Everything was fine yesterday but today I stopped getting notifications. I don’t know what to do next. I hope this problem gets fixed.

I have the exact same problem. No notification badges on all my apps. All settings are fine and correct. They appear as soon as I open the app. Some apps will show a message briefly on the Lock Screen and then vanish. I have iPhone 7+ with iOS 14.4.2. Apple really needs to fix this bug. It’s frustrating to go from app to app to see received messages. Doesn’t work for Yahoo! mail, GMail, Outlook, Signal, Telegram, LinkedIn, iMessage. FIX IT!

No notifications at all come through unless I touch my phone or dismiss the last one that came through. It doesn't matter if it is locked or unlocked and I have done all the tech support and setting BS. It's an Apple issue that needs to be fixed immediately! It just started within the past two upgrades. It actually effects my income too because I don't get notified when there are jobs available until somebody else has taken them because their phones work properly. I am so upset!
