I ordered a new MacBook Air today and it will be delivered in three to four weeks. But I have to send in my old MacBook Pro within 14 days I believe. That means I will not have a notebook to use until a new one is delivered. Is that correct?

Is this the normal procedure?

The 14 days start when the new one ships (which is usually 2 day shipping). I'd suggest that you make sure you have a current backup on an external drive - that way you can use that to transfer things over. And, if you are trading in your current one, use this guide to prepare it. And, just in case, take pics of your laptop inside and out before sending it in.
