Touch ID and passcode

I gave an iPhone 12 Pro Max and want to turn off Face ID to use Touch ID with fingerprint, my phone doesn’t seem to have this function, apple instructions are unhelpful....

iPhones come with either Face ID or Touch ID.. not both.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is a Face ID model (all iPhone 12 models have Face ID)
