Messages deleted over both iPhone and Macbook

How can I delete messages off my phone OR my MacBook without deleting them from the other device?

If I want to delete a message off my phone, it says the message will delete all other devices. I want to delete messages on just one device while still having the ability to message on both my MacBook and iPhone.

iPhone 11, iOS 14

It sounds like you are using iCloud Messages. In that case, messages are synced across all devices so when you delete from one, you delete from all. If you wish to have it where you can just delete from a single device, you will need to turn off iCloud Messages in Settings.
