Apple Watch Walkie talkie problems

Can anyone help, me and my partner are trying to connect our Apple Watch Walkie talkie apps and can’t! We have tried everything from restarting phone to changing FaceTime and Apple Watch settings! It just simply won’t work and it is incredibly frustrating! Does anyone have any advice?
