Apple Watch activity app

Is there a way to adjust the settings on the iPhone/Apple Watch Activity app so that it doesn’t send a notification to friends I share my activity with every time I workout, but I can still view their daily activity rings (and vice versa)?

When I go to view my friend's activity on my Apple Watch, it says "To Start Sharing your Activity, use the Activity app on your iphone."
