Not updating automatically while on automatic update? Why?

So I have an iPhone 6s and it keeps mentioning an update available but I have it on automatic update and it won’t do it automatically?..is that cause maybe my iPhone is outdated and won’t take the updates newer phones will??Or what? Please help?? Cause I’m confused

14.4 is the next one for it. You've missed about ten of them.

Automatic updates are done overnight. Lots of reason you didn't get them. It must be on a charge and you must be using a Wi-Fi network. No VPN or hotspot.

But I’ve done that!?..left it over night ****** near On charge connected to WiFi and NOTHING..could it be maybe a data issue?..like my phone got too many videos and apps to free up enough data for the update?..cause the phones always mentioning to free up data every time I take a pic or video lately so..smh man idk what’s going on but it’s frustrating
