iMac update affect on iTunes library

I downloaded Apple ios 14.3 on my ipad. I lost half of my playlists in itunes I would like to reload them to my ipad, from my imac. My imac will not allow me to do that without first updating my imac software. I am concerned that when I update my iMac I will playlists there also. They then will be permanently lost

Any solutions?
