Are Microsoft bluetooth keyboards (Ergonomic Surface keyboard) incompatible with the new M1 Mac Mini?

I've been using the MS Ergonomic Surface bluetooth keyboard for a few years with no problem as the only quality ergonomic keyboard I know of compatible with PCs, Macs and iOS devices.

Until today, when I got a new M1 Mac Mini. No issues pairing with a Logitech mouse or iPods, but the mini, while showing the keyboard when in pairing mode, refused to pair with it.

Is there an issue here, maybe related to the non-Intel processor, and if so, any hope it will be fixed? At the moment, I'm using an old USB keyboard.

Never Mind - Failing Batteries.

The keyboard had enough juice to light up and allow the computers to discover it, but on entering the confirmation code would fail to connect. Replacing the batteries solved the problem.
