In Numbers, there are sheets and tables. A sheet is just a blank page on which you can put things like tables, shapes, text boxes, etc. . A table is the thing with cells and gridlines and formulas and all that.

It is very simple to split up a large table into smaller ones. The best way to do so depends on how you want to cut it up but it is all basically the same thing.

Let's say you want to take columns D-F out of your table and create a new table from them:

  1. Click on the column letter for column D to select the entire column
  2. Shift-click on column letter F to select all columns from D-F
  3. Click and hold on one of those column letters and the columns will "lift" from the table
  4. Drag them to a blank spot on the sheet and drop them to create a new table from them.
  5. If you want the new table on a different sheet, select the table, Cut, go to the other sheet, Paste.

You can do the same lift/drag/drop with entire rows by clicking on the row numbers instead.

You can select a cell or range of cells from within a table and lift/drag them to a blank spot on the sheet to make a new table from them.

You can also move columns, rows, cells, and ranges of cells to new locations in the same table with the lift/drag/drop method. It is very easy.

Assuming that by "spreadsheet" and "sheets" you mean a 'large Table' on a Sheet in a Numbers "Spreadsheet Document" and several 'smaller Tables' on the same Sheet (or on several Sheets) in the same Document, the process is fairly simple.

Start with the 'large' table:

Click any cell to activate that table and to show the column and row reference tabs.

Select the (tabs of the) first set of columns you want to separate from the large table.

Click on the left part of any of the tabs, and hold until the selected tbs and their columns 'rise' from the table.

With the mouse button still held down, drag right to separate the selected columns from the table.

At about a column's width away from the table, you'll notice a small 'jump' in the columns' movement. Release the mouse button to drop the new table onto the Sheet.

To separate the new table into smaller ones with fewer rows:

Select the tabs of the rows to be detached from the table.

Click and hold in the space below or above the number in one of the selected tabs.

When the selected rows 'rise' from the Sheet, drag down until the dragged rows separate from the table, then drop the detached rows onto the Sheet

Repeat as needed.

Barry
