My Apple ID is showing instead of my phone numberin the info of the group chat, how do I change it?

I am in a group chat and when I look under info my iCloud email address is shown amongst everyone in the chat. I left and returned and it still shows email. Even when I had someone add me by phone number. I then added myself by phone number and then it added me as my phone number but I am also still in under my Apple ID. My message settings are set to initiate and use my phone number for iMessage.
