Possible downgrade from OS X Bug Sur

Hi there, I am looking at purchasing a brand new Macbook Air - that uses Big Sur.

But before I do, I was just wanting to see if I can downgrade to an earlier version of OS X or not (as I understand that certain programs don't work on the latest)?

Any help would be great :)

You cannot downgrade a mac to an older OS rom the one it came pre installed with.

As new macs are now shipping with macOS Big Sur pre installed you therefore

cannot install macOS High Sierra or any other older macOS on them.

It is possible to install High Sierra on a Virtual Machine but performance is diminished,

something like Parallels, https://www.parallels.com/uk/products/desktop/
