I recently bought a macbook air and am looking to wipe my old one so I can recycle it. However, the command +r does not seem to work. Is there another way I can wipe the computer?

Connect the computer's original thumbdrive and restart with the Option key held down.
A MacBook Air doesn't have an internal optical drive, and the recovery partition didn't become available until 10.7; it's not an option.

Please restart either with your 10.6.x DVD or restart in the Recovery Partition (hold down Command + R on startup) and then open Disk Utility and do your Erase. You cannot erase the volume you are currently logged into, these two methods are you ONLY 2 options.
