Macbook pro 15 inch late 2013 black screen after startup, external screen is working through HDMI

Dear community-member,

Is my videocard bust? Or is the screen a write-off. Is it possible to tell either from my description?

I have already tried all the different reset key-combinations to no avail.

Thank you for your time.

If the external display is working, then it means the laptop's built-in display is bad. There is a slim chance the internal video cable just needs to be reseated, but this connector is very fragile and easily damaged (must disconnect power & battery before reseating the cable).
