Powerbeats Pro Wireless ONLY charging when case is open

My Powerbeats Pro wireless ear buds don't charge when the case is closed. I just realized they're charging only when the case is open. This has been very frustrating as each time I go to use them, they're dead.

Any ideas on how to get them to charge with the case closed?
