I've searched the forums here and can't find a solution to my issue. I am using a Dell 5110cn with MacOS 11.2.1 (Big Sur). What I'm trying to do is set it so it always prints in black and white and not color.
When I try to print, I see this dialog:
No option to choose black and white. If I go to system preferences, I get this:
And under options, I get nothing:
Any advice would be appreciated.

Dell would know more about this printer than your fellow users. Contact Dell and ask them if there is a way to do pure b&w with this particular printer.

Thanks for the reply. I did contact Dell and they said I can't set the printer to print black and white only automatically, but I could do so within each app I'm using to print. So if I was printing with Word, for example, I could choose grayscale or black and white. However, I cannot find any option to do that in any application.
The ability to print monochrome or grayscale in MS Word is dependent on whether the printer offers that option in its print panel, not the application. I suppose if you remove the color cartridges, the printer will throw a fault and not work.
I wonder what would happen if you went broke buying three new black cartridges and see if the printer is just dumb enough to allow you to run with all black toner cartridges. Got any nearly depleted black toner cartridges still laying around to test? 🤓
I've given up on that issue - I used to have an Epson and was told by their support that printers require some minute amount of color(s) even in black/white. So, I just leave it on the default setting.

Yes, I'm afraid so. My cyan is running low, and the printer won't work without it. I guess I'm out of luck. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I like the way you think! However, Dell have apparently thought of that -- the black cartridge is a different size from the color ones...
