Verification fails when setting a Recovery Key

Has anyone had a problem creating a Recovery Key.?

I tried on my iPad and the verification step fails with an “incorrect key” message?

I tried several times making sure I entered the code correctly

Thank you for your response and the link to the Apple support page which describes how to generate a Recovery Key.

I tried several times on my IPad Mini (5th Gen.) Each time the procedure stops with an error message (Incorrect Code) at the final step of confirming the generated code.

I suspect the problem dates back several years (2014?) at the point when I created a Recovery Key when 2 factor authentication (or was it 2 step verification, I can’t remember) was turned on using the “My Apple ID” webpage,

Now it’s no longer possible to set a Recovery Key at “My Apple ID”

In short, I think this is a glitch caused by the difference between how Recovery Key worked when it was first introduced 7 or 8 years ago and how it works now in Big Sur/iOS 14.
