Poppleton1,

We appreciate that additional information. It sounds like this is only happening when using the receiver of your iPhone. Did any of the steps in the article we shared, particularly step 2 which outlines how to clean your receiver, help with this issue?

If not, does this happen with every contact you call or only when calling specific contacts? Does this occur in multiple locations as well?

Let’s also see if this persists with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) turned off. To turn this off, navigate to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE and tap 'Data Only'.

Thanks!

Poppleton1,

Thanks for keeping us updated. Did you also test to see if this continues with Voice over LTE turned off?

If you have and this issue persists, follow these steps next:

  1. Remove any case or screen protector from your iPhone
  2. Set the ring/silent switch to ring.
  3. Go to Settings > Accessibility.
  4. Tap Audio/Visual.
  5. Slide the audio volume balance slider all the way to the right.
  6. Go to Settings > Sound & Haptics > Ringtone.
  7. Tap on a ringtone to play it.
  8. Listen to the sound from the receiver.

Repeat the steps above, changing the audio volume balance slider to the left instead. Next, listen to the device speaker this time instead of the receiver. If no sound plays or if the sound is distorted or muffled from the receiver or the speaker after following those steps, then we would recommend having the iPhone inspected for service.

Also, be sure to put the audio volume balance slider back in the center after you are done testing.

Take care!

Hi there Poppleton1,

We understand that the volume during calls is lower than expected. We’d be glad to assist.

To confirm, does this only happen while on phone calls or does this happen in other apps as well? Is the volume low when using the receiver (earpiece), speaker phone, or when using a headset?

Let’s also follow this great article:

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

Cheers!
