Lost iMac password

Using the method of starting with command-R held down I get disk utility but no terminal in which to type reset password. Any ideas?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

reset passwords 21 inch iMac mid 2011, Last edition High Sierra, trying to reset password. I startup with command + R, get to Terminal, I get to Screen that says "Select User " . I click on my name and nothing happens. Thanks in advance.
