Retrieve deleted messages
i accidentally deleted a message thread can I retrieve it?

You can if you include messages in the backup. If you use Messages with iCloud and you deleted the convo, it is gone. Remember that when you restore a backup you overwrite the current contents of the device and replace it with the contents/data in the backup.
